Please, KEEP the change!

It is officially 94 days past my 40th birthday-this translates to 94 days past when I was supposed to start…1.) posting to my blog  regularly  2.) exercising and  3.) being well on my way to losing the 20 (probably/definitely should be closer to 30, but I’m sticking with 20) extra pounds I found in Texas.  They do say EVERYTHING is bigger in Texas…..I just never thought I would find myself as the subject of this famous bumper sticker adage.

Just when I was really lamenting my wasted days of not embracing the time this new decade in my life was affording me to truly become “forty and fabulous”, I heard a quote that I love by George Elliot... "It is never too late to be who you might have been".  What a great quote!  Embracing change is always hard, in fact where I heard this quote was on one of my favorite television shows, Brothers & Sisters, which I have learned has been cancelled-sad face.  I was really disappointed until I remembered how sad I was when Ally McBeal, Boston Legal and many others aired their final episodes, but new shows quickly started in the Fall and all was well again.  It’s ironic how we are able to rebound, adapt and really flourish in times of change if we are open to it.  It’s what we do with the gift of change that matters most, not the change itself.  Notice I said “gift of change”-all part of the “forty and fabulous” transformation-especially since what I would really rather say is  “please, KEEP the change”!

I think we all relish and get stuck in the past-the glory days when we were the star football player and head cheerleader in high school, our college days of new found independence, when we were a size 2, when our children still needed us for everything….but if things never changed and time stopped, we would miss out on so much that God created us uniquely for!

My husband and I went to see Midnight in Paris recently.  What a charming example of being passionate about (and embracing) what you love,  which many times includes change and/or acceptance.  The movie and soundtrack are wonderful…a sneak peak here:

Change = to become transformed or converted

Here’s to many transformations, blog posts, pounds shed and the people in our life who are with us every step of the way…

Cheers!
Amy

P.S.  And to my sweet friend, Nikki (Be sure to check out her lovely blog-Beauty Redux.), thank you for being so web, computer and blog savvy and then sharing those gifts with a novice like me!
